The Swedish acoustic panels brand BAUX invited eight architecture students to showcase the future of wellbeing at their exhibition during Stockholm Furniture Fair and Clerkenwell Design Week 2023.
Well Arena is a swimming arena for competitions and training. The circular form of the building brings the focus naturally towards the swimmers competing in the middle. BAUX cladding connects the roof to the pool level, creating a cohesive feel to the space. The timber gridshell roof construction pops out by color contrasting the blue panels mounted behind. A second pool is built into the curved outer walls creating a 300 metre long distance pool for warm up and a sense of swimming in stretches of open water. Similar to a well, rainwater from the roof is drained and filtered through glazed walls which enables the visitors to experience the outdoor weather conditions and the process of water rinsing.
Swimming halls are notoriously problematic acoustic and humid environments. BAUX products and the exposed timber construction are regulating these mechanisms, making it a more comfortable space for swimmers and spectators.
